Several partnership formations have been considered in airline business strategy over the last two decades, including alliance participation and code sharing. The main objective of alliances is to improve the competition and performance of alliance members. Several benefits are expected when airlines participate in such global alliances. Under these global alliance programmes, airline grouping has matured and expanded from five airlines in 1997 to 62 airlines in 2016. Since the first global alliance was established 20 years ago, several important questions have been discussed. The main concerns are these: How well have the objectives of global alliances been achieved? and will alliances remain relevant? To reflect more current airline performance and global alliances, a sample of 37 aligned airlines and 66 non-aligned airlines in 2016 were selected in the current study. The objectives of this study are to estimate aggregate airline efficiency using an aggregate efficiency measurement framework as suggested by Simar and Zelenyuk (2007) and identify the determinants of global airline efficiency based on a bootstrap data envelopment analysis approach, as proposed by Simar and Wilson (2007). This study extends the discussion of several business strategies in the global airline industry.

徐国锋博士(Dr. Kok Fong See)，马来西亚理科大学(Universiti Sains Malaysia) 高级讲师,毕业于澳大利亚昆士兰大学，获经济博士学位。主要研究能源经济，环境经济，生产率与效率评估，数据包络分析以及随机前沿分析等方面。目前主持及主要参与多项研究基金项目包括日本住友财团研究项目，马来西亚研究大学基金项目等。同时，也作为高级学者访问德国不来梅应用科技大学等多所大学。
目前已经在国际重要SSCI/SCI刊物上发表了多篇学术论文,包括Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Utilities Policy等。除此之外，他在过去三年(2017-2019年)荣获美国政府设置的富布莱特学者奖学金,澳大利亚研究学者奋进奖学金。
